In response to the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Lao Prime Minister Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith, led a high-ranking Lao government delegation to attend to the 41^st meeting of the Laos-Vietnam Inter-Governmental Committee from 5-6 January 2019 in Hanoi, Vietnam.

After the meeting, two prime ministers held a press conference and witnessed the signing of six important documents.

Both sides have agreed to stronger cooperation in a wide range of fields, including human resource development, trade, and investment.

On 3 January 2018, at Presidential Palace, new Lao ambassadors received their credentials from President Bounnhang Vorachit as follows: Lao ambassador to the Republic of Korea (ROK), Mr Thieng Boupha, Lao ambassador to the United States of America, Mr Khamphan Anlavan, and Lao ambassador to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Mr Heuangseng Khamdalavong.

On 11 December 2018, The 28th Laos-Vietnam joint border committee held in Vientiane Capital.
The meeting co-chaired by Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs, Saleumxay Kommasith and Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister, Le Hoai Trung.
