Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith confirmed to the media that Laos is ready to host the 49th ASEAN Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and related meetings in Vientiane on July 21-26.

Ministers from ASEAN member states, ASEAN Dialogue Partner countries and external partners have also confirmed their intended participation in the upcoming events.

Mr Saleumxay urged the public to take part in creating favourable conditions for the 49th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) so that it is hosted smoothly along with the related events over days to come.

On the sidelines of AMM 49 will be the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon Free Zone Commission Meeting, the Post Ministerial Conferences, the 17th ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Foreign Minister’s Meeting, the 6th East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, the 23rd ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), and other major events.  All will be held in Vientiane Capital.

At the 49th AMM, participants are expected to discuss follow-up issues to the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat held in February in Vientiane and deliberate on how to strengthen the ASEAN Community, including the implementation of the ASEAN Political-Security Community Blueprint 2025.  They will also discuss the work of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights for the year 2016 and make preparations for related meetings.

In addition, the ASEAN Foreign Ministers together with their counterparts from ASEAN Dialogue Partner countries and external partners will review and chart out future directions for their respective cooperation under ASEAN-led mechanisms namely, ASEAN+1, APT, EAS and ARF.
